“A World Unbroken”
July 3-10, 2011 in Louisville, Kentucky

For over 50 years, NYC has and continues to be an integral part of youth groups across Canada and the United States. It occurs only every four years and for most, presents a “once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity to join in with thousands of peers to experience God’s presence through worship, service projects, devotions, concerts and amazing fellowship.

The purpose of NYC 2011–”A World Unbroken” is for participants to:

1. Experience the transformational power of God.
2. Understand the brokeness in the world.
3. Discover effective ways to respond to this brokeness.
4. Engage in the work of God to bring hope and restoration.

about

Once upon a time, way back in 1958 the first International Institute took place. While this event was not called Nazarene Youth Conference, the idea was the same: gather high school students from all over the USA and Canada for a time focused on the transforming story and love of God. In 1974 International Institutes were renamed Nazarene World Youth Conferences and included delegates from all around the world. Districts selected delegates who were sent to NYC (yes, there was an application process, references, and Scripture memory verses). Then in 1987 the name changed to Nazarene Youth Congress and aimed to serve the USA and Canada regions. Recently, in 2002, the name of this transformational event was changed to Nazarene Youth Conference and was opened to all USA/Canada teens to attend. One element remains true: since that first conference in Estes Park, Colorado, we have made it a priority to keep drawing students together, sharing the story of God’s love, and inviting God to change us!

NYC changes locations and has met in St. Louis, Houston, Toronto, Phoenix, Orlando, Washington D.C., Estes Park, Colorado, Mexico, and Switzerland. God has done great things through those times! Story after story is told of how God used that time to call people to full-time ministry, to dedicate their lives fully to Christ in every way, to open their heart to what God was and is calling them to do.

We are excited to share that other Nazarene Youth Conferences/Congresses have sprung up all over the world from Europe to South America to the Caribbean to Asia. One thing has remained true at each of these incredible events: God’s presence!

As you register and prepare to come to NYC 2011 – A World Unbroken – know that you are part of a great movement of God in the life of His people!

Here is a top-ten list for why YOU should include NYC 2011 in your summer plans:

NYC is a well-loved Nazarene youth tradition! Thousands of teenagers have received a call to ministry and have changed their world. Will you be next?

Can you say PAR-TAY?! This is an awesome opportunity to get your party on with thousands of Nazarene teens! You will mix and mingle with people who love and worship the same God from all over the United States and Canada.

Speakers! No, we are not talking about the sub woofers you are trying to talk your parents into letting you buy…we’re talking about leaders who tell the truth and who proclaim the message of the love and freedom we have in Christ!

NYC 2011 will have some of Christian music’s top performing artists leading in worship. Details on artists who will be attending will be available at a later date.

Top secret investigations—we mean, college investigations. Are you interested in attending university? All Nazarene Universities and Colleges from Canada and the United States will be present to answer your toughest questions, including “what kind of food does the cafeteria serve?”

You will be able to spend time with your District—that means meeting with teens from your area who are on the same journey. Whether it be during the traveling to and from NYC 2011, or at late-night activities, you will definitely embark on an adventure with those on your district – it’s gonna be epic!

The theme is “A World Unbroken.” So while attending NYC 2011 you will be able to participate in unbreaking your heart, your family, your youth group, your community and your world with the help of thousands of your new besties (you know, those people we mentioned in #9)!

The city of Louisville is graciously hosting your NYC, and we have the opportunity to serve alongside them in several different Ministry With Others Projects. This is our chance to give back to the community and be an instrument of Christ’s love.

You will get to see the big picture—a glimpse into the life that God is calling us as a generation to! Be un! (if you don’t know what “be un” means…you might just need to go to NYC 2011)

NYC will be a life-changing experience where God is present and will transform your life if you are willing. Let’s just be honest—what is cooler than that?!

What is Nazarene Youth Conference 2011—A World Unbroken?

NYC (Nazarene Youth Conference) is an exciting and life-changing event for high school students and it only happens once every four years! The experience is jam packed with dynamic speakers, worship with thousands of other high school students and sponsors from the Canada and the U.S., informative breakout sessions with leaders in the church, service projects in the community, high energy concerts from some leading artists in Christian music, and so much more.

At this conference we will explore how to experience the transformational power of God, understand the brokenness in the world, discover effective ways to respond to this brokenness, and engage in the work of God to bring hope and healing. Come join us as we envision A World Unbroken!

When and where is NYC?

The event will take place in Louisville, Kentucky at the International Convention Center (KICC) and Downtown Arena. The actual conference dates are July 5-10, 2011. However, we may have additional activities planned for you before or after the conference. So stay up to date by reading our Blog!

Who can attend NYC 2011—A World Unbroken?

• Any student who is going into or graduating from high school in 2011 (yes, incoming grade 9 students can come too) and of course all those in between.

• Adults who are approved by our district as a sponsor and have undergone a background check. There is a required sponsor to student ratio of 1:8. It is recommended that every church sending students to NYC would send at least one sponsor from that church to attend NYC as well.

• Adults who are interested in volunteering for the event. There is a minimum age requirement of 21 and all volunteers must undergo a background check, provide a pastoral reference, and be approved by the NYC office. Volunteers are such an important part of making NYC happen!

Why should I go?

• Students: This event will be one of the highlights of your life and one you will remember for years to come! How many chances do we have as high school students to meet teenagers from all over Canada and the U.S. and worship with thousands of people just like us? The relationships you establish at NYC will be life changing and the impact of God’s presence and touch transformational.

• Adult District Sponsors: How many times as adults do we wonder what it would be like to be a part of something that matters and makes a difference? Here is your chance – to put the faith that you have in our teenagers into action, to invest individually in their lives right where they are, and to witness first-hand what God can do when the youth of our world fully surrender to Him.

• Adult Event Volunteers: Just in case the idea of a free one-of-a-kind t-shirt doesn’t light a fire inside of you, how about a chance to be a part of THE team that makes happen the 2nd largest event sponsored by the Church of the Nazarene? You will not only have the opportunity to use your gifts and interests to make NYC a reality; you will also be investing in the lives of thousands of teenagers as they explore what it takes to create A World Unbroken.

Adult Event Volunteers:

In order to volunteer for NYC, you must be willing and able to assist with your own expenses (lodging, transportation, etc.) If this is an issue, please communicate with the NYC office at events@nazarene.org.

How do I register?

• Students: We will provide the process for NYC registration. All the forms you need will be available on this website, through your youth pastor or our District NYC Coordinator.

• Adult District Sponsors: All necessary registration procedures and forms will be available through our district. District sponsors must be approved by the district leadership and undergo a background check. Once approval has been given, sponsors will receive a web address from the District NYC Coordinator to register online.

• Adult Event Volunteers: All necessary registration procedures and forms will be available through the main NYC website www.nyc2011.org. Event volunteers must complete all forms, including a pastoral reference, undergo a background check and be approved by the NYC office. Once approval has been given, event volunteers will receive a web address from the NYC office to register online.

How do I get there and where will I stay?

You will be flying to Louisville, Kentucky and will be staying in a hotel located close to the convention center. We will be in communication with you on plans and costs.

Who are the speakers and musicians?

The NYC office is unable to book speakers and music until about 12 months from the event. Be assured they will be top notch. Keep an eye on the website as we will update you when speakers, music, and special events are booked.
